Of course I'll be here again, see you tomorrow, but it's the end of today | 12/3 playlist

Song of the week: "Addict With A Pen" by twenty one pilots off of their self-titled record. My blog title also drew inspiration from this song because it's one of many that I can identify with, which made it a perfect fit for this blog.

This week was a little bittersweet: my last DJ shift of 2014. The Blaze means so much to me, more than words can even explain. I even sat in on the last half or so of DJ Scarlett A's set and we talked about Christmas music, our "emo phases" and movies. The usual.

I'm not sure when my shift will be next semester, but here's what was played today. Listen to it again on Spotify here.

  • "Cheap Thrills" - Junior Prom
  • "Fools Gold" - Fitz and the Tantrums
  • "Right Now" - Never Let This Go
  • "Lights" - Ellie Goulding
  • "La La Love" - Neon Tiger
  • "Mercy" - Duffy
  • "Elise" - YesNoMaybe
  • "Zero Zero" - Gerard Way
  • "Come As You Are" - Nirvana
  • "Diane Young" - Vampire Weekend
  • "Tangled" - Northern Hustle
  • "Fillmore" - Instructions
  • "Pumpin Blood" - NONONO
  • "Waves" - Magic Man
  • "Guns for Hands" - twenty one pilots

And with it being the end of the year, I only have two concerts left. I'm sort of bummed, because half of the friends I made this year I met at shows, but I'm ending the year right. I get to see the Hollywood Ending boys perform one of their last shows of the year next week and then I'm seeing Cage The Elephant, Katastro, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness and Young The Giant for my birthday. All I need is an ugly Christmas sweater.

I'm not sure what next semester holds. I'm super excited, that's for sure, but this semester was pretty tough. Usually having tough classes would be hard for me in the past and I would just give up, but I'm taking stuff from my classes and retaining the information, which I think is more valuable than my GPA. Not that your GPA isn't important, because it is, but I'd rather have a B in a class and be challenged than have an A and not be learning anything.

The Future Sunsets guys released their second single this past weekend, and not gonna lie, this one hit home for me. Download it on iTunes here. Support independent music!

Lastly, this week I got overwhelmed with a lot of things. I think it's finals week getting to me. I had brought my journal back with me to school, and even though I use this blog as a journal, nothing's better than writing in a real journal with black pen and getting the pages crisp with words. I found entries from over the summer after I met Fall Out Boy and Patrick's promise he made me was in those entries. The promise he made to me was brief but super personal, and I'm going to get sappy on him for a second.

I've met a lot of band members who kind of brush you off like you're nothing. I've learned that it's harder to be mean to people than it is to be nice, and that's all thanks to Patrick. When I met him in August, I handed him a letter that I poured my heart and soul into, sealed away into an envelope that I had printed his name neatly in blue Crayola marker on. When I got to him at the table, we chatted for a bit, and I slid him my letter. He looked at the letter with the biggest "for me?" face and looked at me and thanked me, the type of thank you that you can't fake. His face squished up as he reached for my letter and then patted my hand resting on the table and thanked me again. When I went back to take the photo after the signing, he was standing on the end, but saw me up next for the photo and scooted away from Joe, looked down at the spot he made on the ground, and then looked up at me. After we took the photo, he was still gripping onto my shoulder and turned me to face him. Being the same height as him helped me to actually look at him in the eyes when he talked to me, but he brought me close and thanked me for taking the time out to write him a letter and he promised he'd read it.

That was August, and it's now December, but there is a small part of me that he'll read it, if he hasn't already. I know he takes time aside to read people's letters and he sends them direct messages on Twitter. Maybe he has read it. Maybe my story touched him in some way. But not knowing actually makes me more and more excited to see him again in March.

Any who, I'm done with being sappy. I'm ending this post with a FOB performance from one of their first shows off of hiatus, and more proof that Patrick Stump is one of the most talented front men in the history of ever. Take note of his energy though: the way he takes his hat off to head bang during the chorus of "Thriller" and his dancing to "This Ain't a Scene," it's just unreal. Performances like this are why I go to shows.
